And the guest strip continues! The ever talented Abigail Goldsmith obviously sees Mat in much the same light (light... get it... walk in the light... oh nevermind... again) as me. Although I hate to say it, I'm afraid many a man would respond in much the same manner as Mat in this particular case.
Abby has chosen to forgive me for posting an image of her on Friday (well... I stole it off her website so it's all her fault anyway *grin*). I'm still really thrilled that she chose to do these strips. A very undeserved break for me but it's really nice to see actual drawn art on here for once. Any of you hear of a little site called Dragonmount? (That's heavy with sarcasm by the way... they kinda dwarf this little corner of WoT fandom) You may have heard that Jason Denzel and crew are doing a 3D WoT movie that will eventually be free for downloading. Well, Abby's doing some of the character animation! She's even worked on Activision's X-Men: The Next Dimension. Busy gal, that Abby. Makes me look downright lethargic.
Oh, and she did send me a little something to say in the rant but alas, being a tired little bugger, I was already asleep. Nonetheless, here's her (very) short commentary on this little mini-series:
"The Mat and Tuon thing is just too silly to pass up on the subject matter. (And sorry to those who haven't read books 9 and 10, otherwise these comics make no sense)."
I don't think she should apologize though. It is July after all... you've all had plenty of time to read CoT... and if you haven't... well go do it. Hurry. Seriously. It's been out for six freakin' months! You call yourself a WoT fan?
On a personal note, I'm sunburned as hell. Work is going well, but very busy. The apartment hunt continues. Two more apartments... two more failures. I think I've gotten REALLY picky. But I want a place that I'll be comfortably in for years to come, not just one or two... and basement apartments just don't cut it for me.
Quick Movie Reviews:
Italian Job: Norton was cool as usual. Marky Mark played about as flat a character as you can imagine. Charlize Theron also had a forgettable performance. The stuff with the Mini's was fun to watch... but really, I wish I could get my money back. Doing a remake of a movie that wasn't that great to start with is a bad idea. Aren't there any more original scripts? Grade: F
Terminator 3: I swear, I must be the only person in geekdom who isn't a fan of the Terminator franchise. That being said, I enjoyed the movie. I remember seeing a really campy movie called Disturbing Behaviour. Yeah, it was a silly teenie horror, but I enjoyed it because of Nick Stahl. He stole the show. I think he did a great job in T3 too. Excellent actor. Danes played a character that was pretty much identical to every other one she ever played. Arnold was... well... he was Arnold. You either love him or hate him but I think he's pretty well got the whole Terminator thing down. The effects were something to behold. There's a car chase that you just have to see to believe. Kristanna Loken I thought made a good Terminator. I was half in love with her when she was in the short lived series Mortal Kombat: Conquest (I thought it was a good show but apparently nobody agreed with me). In the end, I'd say I liked it but didn't love it. To me though, it was the best of the 3 Terminators. Grade: B
Finding Nemo: Funny. Damn funny. Pixar has the magic touch as far as I'm concerned. Everybody always says it's just the novelty of Computer Graphics that's made their movies more popular than traditional animation... but I tend to disagree. I think Pixar is just really good at picking their scripts (please let them throw off the Disney shackles soon... I want to see what they do when they're totally cut loose). Ellen DeGeneres was a riot as the forgetful Dory (think Memento without the edge). Albert Brooks was a pretty good choice for the "straight man" routine. The aquarium gang had me laughing my ass off. Just plain old funny. Grade: A
